The Wayne County Economic Development plan aims to create and maintain a vibrant rural economy that provides living wage jobs while preserving rural characteristics and a high quality of life. The plan addresses challenges such as a lack of living wage jobs, limited access to goods and services, housing shortages, and inadequate broadband infrastructure. It leverages existing assets like a spectacular environment, outdoor recreation opportunities, and a hard-working resident base. The plan outlines strategies to support existing businesses, develop infrastructure (water, communications, roads, power, housing), manage federal lands for mutual benefit, diversify tourism and outdoor recreation, attract new enterprises, and initiate special projects. Success will be measured by an increasing percentage of living wage jobs, stable or increasing population, quality housing availability, and rising public school enrollment.
