The South Harrison Township Committee meeting included discussions and actions on several key areas. Bids were received for the Improvements to Marl Road, Phase Three project, and the committee discussed the creation of a road maintenance program. Stormwater Management requirements for 2026 were reviewed, including mapping stormwater inlets and creating a Watershed Report. The municipality's performance on the Best Practices Inventory was assessed, and concerns were raised regarding proposed amendments to the JIF bylaws. The committee addressed the replacement of a broken backhoe and discussed camera installation for Stewart Park. An ordinance amending the Township Code regarding Stormwater Management was adopted, and ordinances appropriating funds for roadway improvements, traffic control signals, and public works equipment were introduced. Resolutions were adopted for a shared services agreement with the Harrison Township Fire District 1, advance payment to Comcast for pole work, awarding a contract for the Marl Road reconstruction project, participation in cost-sharing agreements for traffic signals, tax exemptions for disabled veterans, and appointing an Electrical Sub-Code and Electrical Inspector. Public comments were heard regarding recreation programs, ATV ordinance amendments, road maintenance, and zoning violations. The committee also moved into a closed session and discussed filling a part-time construction clerk position.

The committee discussed and approved a one-day event featuring a beer garden by Swedesboro Brewery, along with food trucks and crafters. EMS presence was deemed necessary. The committee discussed Octoberfest, including attractions like a petting zoo, car show, and face painting. The committee also discussed a candy egg hunt. The committee discussed the senior luncheon. A motion was passed to purchase painting supplies for pumpkins, and another motion was passed to purchase tents, tables, and chairs.

This Open Space and Recreation Plan for South Harrison Township serves as a roadmap to guide development, maintain community character, and enhance the quality of life for its residents. The plan focuses on several key areas: preserving wetlands, woodlands, grasslands, and fields to protect biodiversity; establishing a system of greenways to link various areas and protect waterways; safeguarding surface and drinking water quality; expanding active and passive recreation opportunities, including walking, biking, and equestrian trails; identifying and protecting historical resources; and encouraging farmland preservation to support the agricultural industry and maintain the rural landscape.

The board addressed several items including Resolution R-19-06, and a minor sub-division for Mullica Hill Group. The board also reviewed and discussed the SJ Gas Project, a Preliminary & Final Site Plan with a Bulk Variance, including presentations and Q&A sessions. A sub-committee was formed to discuss the color of the building along with the design of the fence for the SJ Gas project. Additionally, there was an update on the Solar Field and the new ownership, and approval for payment of the bills.

The committee discussed various topics, including mosquito spraying for Community Day and the potential Beer Garden. They reviewed the account balance, discussed expenses for the Senior luncheon and Egg Hunt. The committee approved carnival games for Community Day. There was a discussion about a separate Oktoberfest event. The purchase of new buntings for the park was approved, as well as pies and doughnuts for contests. A dunk tank was secured for Community Day.
