The DeSoto County Local Mitigation Strategy is a continuous plan designed to minimize community exposure to natural, technological, and human-caused hazards, thereby enhancing resilience and preparedness. It outlines five key goals: reducing loss of life and property, maintaining high preparedness and coordination, reducing critical facility vulnerability, protecting unique natural habitats and ecological systems, and increasing public awareness and participation in hazard preparedness and mitigation.

The Board of County Commissioners of Desoto County, Florida, ratified and confirmed the 'WHEREAS' clauses as true and correct, incorporating them into the resolution.
