This document presents the Regional Solid Waste Management Plan for the West Central Texas Council of Governments, outlining its strategic direction for 2022-2042. The plan focuses on four main goals: assuring adequate transportation and disposal capabilities, developing local source reduction and recycling programs, controlling illegal and improper disposal practices, and establishing cost-effective and environmentally suitable solid waste management systems. It aims to address concerns such as improper disposal of scrap tires and household hazardous waste, and the lack of region-wide recycling, through initiatives like developing a regional material recovery facility, promoting composting, and enhancing public education on waste management.

The strategic plan for the West Central Texas Council of Governments (WCTCOG) aims to serve nineteen counties by improving the health, safety, and general welfare of citizens and planning for future development. Its primary purpose is to identify and address gaps in critical services across the region. Key focus areas include: ensuring accessible, effective, and victim-centered resources for all crime victims; providing comprehensive, accessible, effective, and culturally appropriate services for juveniles; eliminating mental health and substance abuse problems through comprehensive, accessible services; and equipping law enforcement, courts, and detention facilities with up-to-date resources and training to provide high-level services and ensure public safety. The plan seeks to foster regional cooperation, address funding challenges, and continuously reassess needs to improve the lives of citizens.
