Key discussions included the presentation of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) recognition banners by the Tuscola Intermediate School District Assistant Superintendent. The Board discussed the 2024 Bond Update, specifically concerning the scheduled sale of Series II Bonds in 2026, and reviewed an authorizing resolution. A major topic was the Grade Realignment and building consolidation process, where the Superintendent summarized administrative meetings, staff/family surveys, and the projected timeline. Action items approved by the Board included authorizing the issuance and sale of the 2026 School Building and Site Bonds, Series II, and the hiring of a Varsity Girls Soccer Coach for the 2025-26 season. During the closed session, the Board approved a resolution concerning the State School Aid Act Section 31aa regarding litigation and privilege-waiver requirements.

The board discussed an update on inspections and assessments for the Hooper Street property and approved a resolution to purchase it. The board also received building reports and heard the superintendent's report, which included recognition for implementing a Multi-Tiered System of Supports, a decline in student enrollment, the elimination of the MDHHS Pathway to Potential Program, and an update on the bond project. Additionally, the board held a closed session for a due process disciplinary hearing and to discuss attorney-client privilege matters, which resulted in the expulsion of a student.

The meeting included a tour of the storage area of the Auditorium as well as the old weight room and room 910 where the new weight room is now located. The Board went into closed session for the purpose of OMA Section 8(d) ‐ Property. Board members praised the staff and students on their great job with the fluid situation at Schall last week and shared their appreciation for all the staff and community members that volunteered to help clean at Schall and how smoothly it went.

The board reviewed and considered the 2025-2026 student handbooks, discussed the MASB Annual Leadership Conference, and received information on state regulations for virtual learning, as well as the district's virtual learning plan. The 2025-26 salary schedules for administrators were presented for consideration. The board also received building reports and a superintendent report, which included updates on the 2024 Bond project, USDA Distance Learning Grant funding, and a Capturing Kids Hearts training. A resignation of a Middle School Teacher was approved.

The board meeting included a presentation on the Summer Leadership Camp, attended by Caro Middle School students. An audit report for 2024-2025 was presented. Bids for the Schall gymnasium rooftop exhaust fan project were presented for consideration. The board discussed the possibility of the District having a delegate at the MASB Annual Leadership Conference Delegate Assembly. A quarterly update on the district's strategic plan was shared. The board approved the financial audit report, the 2024 Bond bids for the Schall gymnasium rooftop exhaust fan project, and Susan Holder as the Caro Community Schools official voting delegate at the MASB 2025 Delegate Assembly. New staff hires were approved. Updates were provided on the 35M grant for literacy materials and the purchase of technology using USDA Distance Learning Grant funding. The district will provide free meals to students this school year and maintain current staffing levels.
