This Strategic Plan is designed to guide the department's work over the next five years, focusing on internal improvements and partnerships to maximize efforts. The overarching goal is to prevent disease, promote wellness, and protect the health of individuals, children, and families within Dakota County.

The Dakota County 2024-2044 Solid Waste Management Plan serves as a roadmap to guide solid waste management activities, aiming to protect, preserve, and enhance the environment and public health. It integrates key themes such as sustainable material management, greenhouse gas reduction, equitable system benefits, and extended producer responsibility. The plan prioritizes increased waste reduction and reuse, sustainable management of building materials and wood waste, and expanded organics diversion, including residential curbside collection, through 62 defined strategies.
