The Council reviewed and accepted the January 2026 Billing Department Adjustments for filing.

The council received and placed on file various reports, including the 2025 Water Purchased Versus Build report, the November 2025 statement of cash from revenue and expense, and the November 2025 check report. Additionally, the 2025 annual report from the police department and the 2025 year-end update from the planning and permitting department were formally accepted.

The council discussed the employment of a new Clerk of Council and administered the Oath of Office. Reports were presented from the Treasurer's Office and the Building Inspector's Office, including a discussion about the demolition process for a commercial business. The Board assignments for the year 2006 were addressed. Council members discussed the rules of order, specifically amending the salary for assistant clerks. There was a discussion regarding upcoming Zoning Board meetings, including concerns about the meeting times and the importance of rezoning certain wards. The Finance Committee meeting was scheduled, and the council discussed providing written notices for all committee meetings and council meetings to the press. The Water Department was commended for their work on water line breaks.

The Niles City Council meeting addressed several topics, including a financial report from the Niles Trumbull Transit, concerns about an ordinance related to fees for dumpsters and trailers, and vandalism in the city. Council also discussed the possibility of resuming a junior fireman program and addressed neighborhood concerns about a problematic property on Clark Street. Additionally, the council considered and took action on several ordinances and resolutions, including tabling a draft ordinance related to planning and zoning, adopting an ordinance for recodification, and authorizing an agreement with the Ohio Department of Development.

The Niles City Council held a public hearing to discuss proposed amendments. The hearing included miscellaneous remarks from a resident regarding dumpsters and temporary trailers used for retail storage. It was clarified that the intention of the section under discussion was not to address dumpsters, but rather temporary trailers. Dumpsters were indicated as a topic for future discussion.
