Key goals include fostering demand-driven skills attainment, enabling upward mobility for all Californians (especially those with employment barriers), and aligning, coordinating, and integrating workforce programs and services for maximum impact and efficient resource utilization.

The California Workforce Development Board held a meeting to discuss various topics, including AI. The meeting included a roll call of members and welcomed new board members. The discussion on AI covered its rapid development, potential impact on job creation and displacement, and the need for smart risktaking, governance, and ethical norms. The meeting also touched on the infrastructure needed for AI and the potential for job creation in that area.

The California Workforce Development Board meeting included the introduction of the new Chairperson, Joanna Rees, and board member, Angel Sanchez. The Board approved the March 26, 2025, Meeting Summary. A resolution on standards for infrastructure-related funds was discussed, focusing on labor, equity, and climate, with plans to revisit the resolution language. Updates were provided on federal workforce funding uncertainties, the state budget, legislative matters, California Jobs First, the Master Plan for Career Education, advisory groups, local board engagement, and the State Rehabilitation Council. There was enthusiasm for a future AI-focused discussion.

The California Library Literacy Services family literacy implementation and evaluation framework focuses on family outcomes, added questions for annual roles and goals evaluation, event check-ins, and in-depth interviews with adult learners. It aims to gather information that demonstrates success, aligns with existing processes, and supports the diverse needs of families. The framework emphasizes communication, resource support, family member support, and the sharing of books, with a vision of creating welcoming, joyful environments and strong community partnerships.

The committee discussed artificial intelligence, including job displacement and future skill sets. They also discussed a grant application for AI infrastructure and advanced manufacturing. Updates were provided on regional board visits, with invitations being sent to board members. The committee also touched on the eligible training provider list, master plan for career education, and regional coordination efforts.
