This 2019 Multi-Hazard Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan Update for Jefferson County, Georgia, fulfills the requirements of the Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000. The plan's ultimate goal is to identify natural hazards and develop comprehensive strategies to lessen their impact on the community. It addresses a range of hazards, including flooding, dam failure, drought, wildfire, severe weather (tornados, tropical storms, thunderstorm winds, lightning, and hail), winter storms, and earthquakes. The strategic objectives focus on protecting citizens, public infrastructure, and private property; educating the community on hazards; managing development to minimize losses; protecting natural resources; and implementing structural modifications to reduce the effects of hazard events.

The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners received the proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2025-2026, which is available for public review. The board conducted meetings, including a budget workshop, public hearing, and regular commission meeting, to discuss and adopt the budget. Significant budget highlights include the total General Fund budget increase, adjustments for property tax digest estimates, additional funding for salary increases, and a partially self-funded medical insurance program. The budget also includes funding for capital improvement projects and the purchase of additional vehicles.

The meeting agenda includes reports from the Chairman and County Administrator; old business; new business items such as a road name change request, proposals for a GPS mapping project and motor grader purchase, discussion of 911 relocation costs, selection of an LMIG road project, temporary staffing, the commission meeting agenda packet process, a landfill modification proposal, and a resolution to support a Zoom Telecom BEAD grant application; scheduled public comments; public comments on agenda items; and an executive session.
