Precision splitting and refurbishment of a 30-year-old single quadrupole magnet as part of the APS magnet refurbishment project. The scope includes separating the magnet into four quarters by machining out weld seams, removing epoxy-encased Copper coils non-destructively, machining tapped holes, and fabricating custom Aluminum tie plates and fixtures. This pilot project aims to establish a repeatable process for future refurbishments. Contractors must ensure meticulous handling, protection of critical components like pole tips, and adherence to detailed technical drawings and specifications.
