Building 171 machine shops also provides an array of other functions, including manufacture of nuclear and non-nuclear parts, specialized tools and rapid prototypes. The facility is essential to the NNSY mission to perform overhaul work on all classes of nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers in the Atlantic Fleet.
