RFPs/Edis Restore Exedra Wood Components

Edis Restore Exedra Wood Components

Gateway National Recreation Area

Summary

The scope includes the restoration of the wood components in the exedra room in order to ensure that it is structurally stable and secures the envelope of the building. Please note that approximately forty percent of these wood components are associated with an exterior wall. Project work also includes addressing any water penetration or glazing issues associated with the seven exterior windows. These windows are irregularly shaped (approx. 68" in length by 14 inches in width) and are part of the structure of the exterior wall in the exedra. This project also involves addressing repairs to the wood components in the ceiling of the exedra and issues associated with the exterior doors and the two sets of interior doors. Paint finishes will also be addressed on the perimeter of the two interior stained glass windows. The project will involve selecting the most minimally invasive method as is possible, replacing in-kind only the wood components that are damaged beyond repair. The project will also involve conducting historic paint analysis to determine what the original painted finish for the interior areas/exterior areas of the exedra were, in order to recreate them. Applying these finishes to the exedra is part of the scope of this project. This interior finish will be applied to all of the wood components inside of the exedra as well as to any interior door frames or window frames or baseboards as well as to the wood components in the ceiling, including the frame around the perimeter of its stained glass element. All of this work shall be completed in order to return the interior of this space to its historic appearance.
