Work includes replacement of the massmutual center ice plant, which is approx 22 years old and is approaching the end of its useful life. The existing system utilizes r-22 refrigerant, which has since been banned from domestic production or foreign import due to the clean air act and has experienced unpredictable price fluctuations along with its very high global warming and ozone depletion impact. A new refrigerant, co2, has been selected for use to be used by the new packaged chiller skid equipment as part of this new work.
