Borough of Seaside Park

Conflict Public Defender by way of a one (1) year contract ending December 31, 2026. Other attorneys or firms may be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of Council for a term of one (1) year. Responsibilities of the Conflict Public Defender shall include representing indigent defendants in proceedings over which the Seaside Park Borough Court has jurisdiction, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 2B:24-6 et seq., in the event the Borough Public Defender is unable to handle a public matter.

Public defender or conflict public defender to represent indigent defendants who have been assigned an attorney. Prepare discovery request, motions, and conduct legal research to prepare for court appearances. Attend court appearances and conference with judges and prosecutors on behalf of the defendant to find common ground and negotiate plea arrangements. Public defenders will participate in trials where they will have to examine witnesses, present evidence to the judge and make closing statements.
