The model was established by congress under the protecting access to medicare act of 2014 to improve the behavioral health of citizens by providing comprehensive, coordinated, and integrated mental health and substance use disorder services. The model is designed to ensure access to high-quality, coordinated, comprehensive behavioral health services in a timely manner to individuals across the lifespan.
