Dalton Public Schools is restructuring its grade levels in secondary schools to reduce school sizes, expand career pathways, and provide more opportunities for students. This includes building a new middle school for grades 6 and 7, converting the existing middle school into a junior high for grades 8 and 9, and offering two high school choices for grades 10-12, including a magnet school focused on service, entrepreneurship, and leadership. Morris Innovative High School will close after the 2021 graduating class.

The Dalton Public Schools Balanced Scorecard outlines strategic goals and initiatives for student success across four key areas: college, career, and life readiness; social-emotional learning; high-level cognitive engagement; and family and community engagement. Specific objectives include improving student mastery of standards (GMAS scores), enhancing college and career readiness (CCRPI), improving social-emotional learning competencies, increasing student engagement in cognitively demanding work (AP/IB courses, SAT/ACT scores), and developing family support. The plan also addresses operational excellence through state-of-the-art facilities, enhanced school safety, and efficient use of financial resources. Community engagement initiatives aim to cultivate key community influencers and improve communication effectiveness. Quantitative targets and actual results are provided for various performance measures across multiple years (2018-2024), along with initiatives designed to achieve the stated objectives.
